A whirlpool, the torrent and the vortex forced the Danube boatmen to land in Grein and take pilots on board or tranship the goods onto wagons.. The ships drove empty through the rock obstacles.. In 1824 the first rock obstacles were blown up and the importance of Grein began to wane..
