In this travelogue I would like to introduce a relatively unknown area of â€‹â€‹Austria. <9> <9> <121> THE WALDVIERTEL <122> <9> <9> The Waldviertel, the northwestern part of Lower Austria between the Danube and the Czech Republic, is a sparsely populated area of about 4600 km² with a great variety of landscapes.. Moors and heath landscapes alternate with mushroom-rich mixed forests, embedded in them are extraordinary places that still hold their secrets.. <9> <9> Hardly any other area in Austria is as legendary as the Waldviertel.. In impressive natural landscapes, stone monuments and man-made monuments, many people find places to recharge their batteries.. <9> <9> The well-known block stones, shell stones and wobble stones are the epitome of the Waldviertel.. Many of these rock formations are considered special places of power.. An archaeological-cultural-historical puzzle are the Erdställe.. These are narrow underground tours, mostly in spindle form.. The theory that it could have been meditation rooms for connection with the Mother Goddess seems most plausible.. <9> <9> <994/1380553>, <994/1380579>, <994/1380578>, <994/1380558>, <994/1428065> <9> <9> The Waldviertel also caters to those who enjoy the Mystique are not so fond, a wonderful holiday experience..
