The construction of the Canal du Midi brought Beziers great economic importance as a wine trading center.. On the Alle Paul-Riquet a monument commemorates the great builder of the canal.. Not far from the avenue, there are notable buildings of the 19th century, such as the Théâtre Municipal building and the Hôtel Fayet with the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts.. <9>
