  • The origin of the village Pérouges is said to go back to Italian settlers from Perugia.. Later, the village was occupied by Romans.. <9> <9> In the early Middle Ages, Pérouges was taken by the rulers of the Dauphiné province and by the sayoyan princes until it was annexed to France in 1601 and finally, thanks to peace, demolished its fortifications.. <9> <9> Numerous weavings make Pérouges prosper.. The village has its heyday and only at the beginning of the 19th century begins its decline.. <9> <9> Some of the old houses are demolished by the inhabitants.. This process is halted in 1911 with the founding of a committee to rescue the old Pérouges.. Artists, citizens and the administration of the College of Fine Arts are committed to the restoration of the village.. <9> <9> Today, old houses, mostly dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, line the uneven cobbled narrow streets.. <9> <9> The Place de la Halle is surrounded by beautiful houses, especially the 13th century Hostellerie de Pérouges.. At and in the hostellerie you get the Galette de Perouges.
