The city of Montauban is located in south-western France in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne.. The city is located on the Tarn River, one of the longest rivers in France.

In the historic center is the brick church built in the 13th century. During the religious wars of 1561 it was destroyed for the first time and the Catholics who were in it were killed. The base still bears traces of cannonballs from the siege of Louis XIII. in 1621. Eight years later Richelieu then ordered the reconstruction.
