  • German Oberehnheim, it is a town of more than 10 000 inhabitants in the department of Bas-Rhin in the Alsace region.. <9> The first mention dates back to 778, in the 12th century it belonged to the Holy Roman Empire.. The free imperial city, (1240 - 1648), joined the Alsatian Tenstate League in 1354.. The Thirty Years War brought significant destruction in the city.. Louis XIV annexed the city and the French name Obernai prevailed.. Like many cities in Alsace, Obernai belonged to the German Reich from 1871 to 1918..
