Schleiz, Information and images

  • Die Stadt Schleiz wurde im Jahre 1232 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt und erhielt im Jahre 1297 das Stadtrecht. Sie ist die Kreisstadt des Saale-Orla-Kreises.
    Berühmte Persönlichkeiten die die Stadt besuchten oder sich in ihr aufhielten waren u.a. Luther, Bach, Goethe und Napoleon.

    Schleiz hat einige Sehenwürdigkeiten:
    die Bergkirche mit ihren imposanten Wandmalereien und dem kunstvollen Altar. Der parkähnlich angelegte Bergfriedhof.
    Die Alte Münze auf dem Neumarkt ist das markanteste Gebäude der Stadt Schleiz. In deren Räumen befindet sich eine Dauerausstellung der Porzellanmanufaktur Meißen. Sie ist dem Gedenken an den Erfinder des Europäischen Porzellansan Johann Friedrich Böttger gewidmet, der 1682 in Schleiz geboren wurde.
    Im Obergeschoss befindet sich auch die Stadtinformation.

    Das Rutheneum war Wirkungsstätte des berühmten Dr. Konrad Duden. Er hat in Schleiz den Duden erarbeitet. In diesem Gebäude befindet sich auch ein kleines Heimatmuseum, welches einen Blick auf die Arbeit Dudens und auf die Heimatgeschichte zulässt.

    Die Rennstrecke am Schleizer Dreieck ist die älteste Naturrennstrecke Deutschlands. Das erste Rennen wurde hier 1923 durchgeführt.
