    Witzenhausen

    This place received city rights in 1225 and was the county seat before 1974. The city is a well-known important cherry-growing area of ​​the country. This area is considered to be the largest closed cherry-growing area in Europe. Cherries have a long tradition in Witzenhausen, which is why Kesperkirmes (Kesper = cherry) are celebrated every year in July when a cherry queen is elected. Witzenhausen is the seat of the Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences at the University of Kassel, which offers courses in organic farming.
