The artist village <9> <9> Worpswede is a village with about 10 000 inhabitants in the district Osterholz.. <9> <9> <9> History <9> <9> In 1863, the Bremen travel writer Johann Georg Kohl Worpswede traveled to Teufelsmoor.. In the ´Norddeutsche Skizzen´, published in 1864, he describes the life of the Moorkolonisten.. In 1884, the art student Fritz Mackensen came to the village at the invitation of Emilie Stolte, daughter of the Worpswede Ortsvorsteher, and was immediately impressed by the heathland and moor landscape.. <9> In 1889 decided Fritz Mackensen and his study friends Hans at the end and Otto Modersohn to settle permanently in Worpswede.. Thus the artist colony was founded.. In this landscape, they were able to live out their love for outdoor painting.. <9> From 1893 followed Fritz Overbeck, Heinrich Vogeler, Carl Vinnen and Paula Becker.. <9> Heinrich Vogeler bought the Barkenhoff in 1895 and rebuilt it in Art Nouveau style.. The Barkenhoff became the center of the artist movement.. Writers were also inspired, such as Rainer Maria Rilke, the sculptor Clara Westhoff, and Manfred Hausmann.. <9> A major client of the Worpswede artists was from 1900, the Cologne chocolate manufacturer Ludwig Stollwerck.. He had his ad, the Stollwerk paintings and scrapbooks made here.. <9> National Socialism divided the colony into followers like Fritz Mackensen and Carl Emil Uphoff, others like Heinrich Vogeler and Gustav Regler were forced to emigrate.. <9> <9> <9> Numerous works by the old artists are on display in the local museums.. <9> In the studios today´s generation of artists shows their skills.. <9> <9> From the 12th to the 14th of July 2013 the exhibition ´Open Ateliers Worpswede´ took place for the last time <9> <9> <9> Museums: <9> <9> Barkenhoff, Heinrich-Vogeler-Museum <9> Ostendorfer Straße 10 <9> 27726 Worpswede <9> <9> Phone: +49 4792 3968 <9> Opening hours: daily 10am - 6pm <9> <9> <1001> Link to homepage ´Barkenhoff-Stiftung´ } <9> <9> <9> Diedrichshof <9> Erwin-Stauss-Institut <9> Ostendorfer Straße 27 <9> 27726 Worpswede <9> <9> Phone: +49 4792 9331-0 <9> <9> <9> <9> Great Art Show Worpswede <9> Lindenallee 5 <9> 27726 Worpswede <9> <9> Phone: +49 4792 1302 <9> Opening hours: from Easter daily 10 am to 6 pm, from 10 am to 6 pm.. 1. 11. - 15. 3. daily 10 am - 5 pm, <9> closed on Mondays <9> <9> <1002> Link to the homepage ´Grosse Kunstschau´} <9> <9> <9> <9> House im Schluh <9> Im Schluh 35-37 <9> 27726 Worpswede <9> <9> Phone: +49 4792 950061 <9> Opening Hours: <9> 16.. 3 - 31. 10: Mon - Fri 2 - 6 pm, Sat u..
