TownOrt Laveno Mombello
Laveno-Mombello is a remarkable municipality on the eastern shore of Lake Maggiore in Italy. The municipality consists of the three districts Laveno, Mombello and Cerro and has 8,700 inhabitants. The strategically favorable location of Laveno-Mombello meant that various peoples and armies stayed in and around the community over the centuries. The community was a major military base during the Risorgimento, a movement for Italian independence. Today Laveno-Mombello is a popular holiday destination that can be visited all year round. The community offers a kilometer-long waterfront promenade on the lake´s only natural harbor, from which there are ferry connections to the western shore of Lake Maggiore and direct rail connections to Milan. Attractions in the area include the Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso Monastery, the Botanical Gardens of Villa Taranto and Isola Bella, one of the five Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore. Laveno-Mombello is also known for its porcelain and ceramics industry, which was once one of the largest in Italy and Europe. Today the former factories house the Civica Raccolta di Terraglie Museum, which contains all the important artistic ceramics from the 19th century. The community also offers a variety of recreational activities, including outdoor activities, historic sites and family attractions. Laveno-Mombello is also an important transport hub on the lake, used by car travelers, as the only car ferry across the lake leaves from here and connects the east bank with the west bank. The community offers a variety of accommodation options, including hotels and holiday apartments, that meet a wide range of needs. [000.18]
