Evaluation Campingplace Park Road 5 Palo Duro Canyon State Park CampgroundThe Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle - also known as the Grand Canyon of Texas - is the second largest canyon in the United States. With a length of approx. 193 km and an average width of 10 km, which in some places increases up to 37 km. The maximum depth is 244 m. It is the place of the decisive fight against the Southern Plains Indians: the destruction of the tipi camps, the supplies and the removal and killing of the 2,500 horses of the Kiowa, Comanche and Cheyenne on September 24th, 1874. The campgrounds (several loops) are located in a dreamlike landscape, ideal for hiking, biking and horse riding.
