monasteryBenediktinerstift Gleink
Österreich 4407 Steyr Gleinker Hauptstraße 20
The monastery, dedicated to the apostle Andreas, was built in the first half of the 12th century. The Romanesque building was repeatedly damaged by fire in the 13th and 14th centuries. The monastery experienced a heyday at the beginning of the 16th century under Abbot Gregor Grand. But already in 1532 the Turkish cavalry devastated the area around Gleink.
In the period that followed, the monastery experienced ups and downs and was finally dissolved in 1977.
In the years 1981 to 1994 the church and monastery building were extensively renovated.
