    Elne

    Interesting old town. Blason de la ville
    Important oppidum ibère, probablement originalement appelée Pyrene, elle reçut ensuite le nom de Illiberis (ville neuve). La ville est issue du développement d´un oppidum préromain, ville des Sordes, un des grands peuples de la Celtique méditerranéenne. Elle est citée par Tite-Live pour avoir servi de camp de négociations entre Hannibal et les local populations en 218 av. JC. C´était a relatively important center in the province of Narbonnaise, au contraire du Perpignan de l´époque.     [000.65]
