- Moustiers was founded in the 5th century by the monks of the monastery of Lérins.. The location of the place is impressive: The houses and the small church are located between two walls, which are connected by a metal chain.. According to legend, a heroic act of the knight Blacas in the 12th century.. <9> <9> The mineral resources of the area have been producing faience since the 17th century.. The studios of Moustiers, including that of Pierre Clérissy, were famous at the time.. In the 19th century, however, came the break-in and only in 1925, under the influence of Marcel Provellec, production should be resumed.. <9> <9> The village of today, whose houses are grouped around small, shady squares or busy streets, is beautiful.. The church has an interesting Romanesque bell tower with three levels, Italian-style windows and a Gothic choir with three naves.. <9> <9> At the top, on the edge of the canyon, is the Chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir (12th to 14th centuries), to which a steep path leads upwards.. <9> <9> Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is heavily frequented by tourists.
