  • The fortified village, located at an altitude of 1.50 m on the banks of the Haut-Verdon, is a place of relaxation and ideal for athletes: there are numerous well-marked hiking trails, the turbulent Verdon attracts the kayakers, ski slopes are located entirely inside nearby.. <9> <9> In the village, with its well-preserved curtain wall, you can discover narrow streets, small squares with fountains and a church with Romanesque and Gothic elements, built directly on the ramparts.. <9> <9> Under Vauban, the village´s fortifications were improved in the 17th century: Below the village, the Fort de France and above the Fort de Savoie protected the village and the Provençal border.. The fortresses can still be visited today and give Colmars an interesting and extraordinary touch.. <9> <9> The village in the middle of the mountains, with its glittering light, has preserved its medieval character.
