Haubarg on the Eiderstedt Peninsula <9> <9> When the dikes around the former island-like lands of Eiderstedt, Everschop and Utholm had been built so high and firm that the storm surges could no longer harm the inhabitants, large buildings were needed to clear the grain to store and thrash in winter.. There was also room for the cattle and the hay.. <9> <9> The threshed grain and hay were simply stacked in the middle of this new house called ´Haubarg´.. Around this center, the apartment, the cattle shed, the stable and the barn (Lohdiele), on which the grain was threshed in winter, emerged.. <9> <9> Often, a ´barn barn´ was added to the former smaller ´longhouse´ and connected with a smaller space.. The first Haubarge was built around 1600 in Eiderstedt, the core is a ´square´, which was formed from 4, 6 or 8 stands..
