The long-standing timber frame was combined with the block construction method.. This allowed the advantages of both types of construction to be combined.. The Blockstube - usually the basement - is ´bound´ by a wooden structure on which the half-timbered floor or even the roof rests.. This support structure is the Umgebinde.. This idiosyncratic construction has been developed over centuries and adapted to new requirements.. So different houses have emerged - large, small, narrow, wide, simple and prestigious.. No other house type has produced more individuality..
