The town has around 3,500 inhabitants and is named after the medieval poet Wolfram von Eschenbach. In the 14th century the city came into the possession of the Burgraves of Nuremberg and became part of the Nuremberg Empire. During the Thirty Years´ War the city was occupied and plundered several times by troops from different sides. In the period that followed, Eschenbach only slowly recovered from the destruction caused by the war.
