    Aquileia

    Aquileia is an ancient Roman city in northern Italy, located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. The city was founded in the 2nd century BC. Founded in the 1st century BC and was an important trading center and military base for the Romans. Aquileia was also an important hub for trade between the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

    The city has witnessed many significant historical events over the centuries, including the invasion of the Huns in the 5th century AD and the invasion of the Lombards in the 6th century AD. Aquileia was also an important center of Christianity and was made the see of a bishop in the 4th century AD.

    Today Aquileia is best known for its archaeological remains, including the impressive Roman forum, amphitheater and mausoleum. The city also has a beautiful basilica, considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which houses many valuable works of art and frescoes from the 4th to 12th centuries.

    Overall, Aquileia is a fascinating city with a rich history and culture to discover and explore.
