- The town of about 20 000 inhabitants was built on a hill between the rivers Marecchia and Uso.. The old town from the Middle Ages is mostly surrounded by walls from the 15th century.. <9> Sights and interesting things: <9> The Rocca (13th century) was completely rebuilt in the 15th century.. The keep can be made from the courtyard.. Under the cobblestones is a medieval cistern that still works.. Part of the ancient spiral staircase still exists and the acoustics allow a conversation between the various floors.. <9> The fortress is privately owned but can be visited.. <9> <9> Triumphal Arch (Ganganelli Archway) was built in 1777 in honor of Pope Clement XIV, who was born in Santarcangelo.. <9> <9> Chiesa Collegiata, from the 18th century, is the main church of the village and contains several valuable works of art.. <9> <9> Sferisterio Underneath the city wall is this medieval ball court reserved for the ballgame ´palla al bracchiale´.. Today is played here ´drum ball´, which has replaced the older sport.. <9> <9> Grotto Pubblica Ruggeri Under the old town is a network of more than 200 mysterious caves.. Walkways, circular spaces, niches and fountains of uniquely architectural value can be visited.. Piazza delle Monache is the entrance to one of the most beautiful caves.. <9> <9> Stamperia Artigiana Marchi The old craft business has existed since 1600 and is known for its traditional rust-pressure technique.. Even today, old tools are still being used here.. In the shop, the fabrics can be bought.. Visit possible.. <9>
