- We made this trip in April 2010..
We started in Cabo de Gata-Nijar National Park.. Here we could enjoy the unspoilt coast and the great scenery..
Our journey then took us on the south side of the Sierra Nevada on the A 348 through the Alpujarras.. We avoided the coastal strip because of the many foil greenhouses..
The wonderful city of Granada was the next destination.. About Alhama de Granada, Los Romanos we came to the natural wonder ´El Torca´.. The city of Antequera with its Alcazaba is just around the corner and is always worth a visit..
From here it is not far to the Embalses del Guadalteba-Guadalhorce (Reservoirs) where we rest for a few days.. The scenic route takes us further via Ardales, El Burgo to the city of bullfighters and highwaymen to Ronda..
Through the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, we continue to Arcos de la Frontera.. Arcos is the capital of white villages, and the old town, which sits on a steep cliff above a river, is a tourist attraction..
Now we drive further south to Vejer de la Frontera and to the coast at Conil de la Frontera.. Here on the Costa de la Luz we take our time.. Especially the seaside resort "El Palmar" has done it to us.. Miles of deserted beach and only sun, wind and sea.. Conil de la Frontera is a typical Andalusian town.. The Arab influence in the narrow streets, the white, low houses is not to be overlooked.. At the Cala del Aceite we let it go well again..
From here it is about 43 km to Cadiz.. However, we leave Cadiz and Jerez on the left and drive directly to Seville.. Here is just the ´Feria´ celebrated and we want to witness (and we have)..
After so much excitement, we treat ourselves to a few days of rest and relaxation in the Parque Nacional de Donana.. It is still April and Pentecost is still far away.. El Rocio is a place of a special kind, known as a place of pilgrimage.. About 800 inhabitants live here, only over Pentecost more than 1 million people come here for a pilgrimage.
