Once in Westphalia hippos and southern elephants were at home In a quarry in the district of Soest, experts of the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) discovered fossil bones in 2006 and 2007, including more than 200 elephant teeth and teeth of hippos, cattle, a rhinoceros and a large deer.. It is the largest find of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia.. Part of the 1.8 to 2.2 million years old fossils is now for the first time, probably until the end of 2010, in the LWL Museum of Natural History in Münster to see.. Entry to the museum costs 3.50 euros;. Children pay 2 euros.. A family ticket is available for 8 euros..
