Bad Buchau is a health resort in Baden Württemberg, west of Biberach an der Riss, directly on the Federsee. The main attractions are the moor and mineral spa, as well as the Federsee with its surrounding moor areas «e.g. Eiswackelwäldle»
Obviously people felt at home here as early as the Stone Age, as numerous finds from Ice Age reindeer hunters and pile farmers attest. The oldest wooden wheels in Europe were found here. Bad Buchau used to be in the middle of the Federsee, which resulted in a safe location without towers or city walls.
At the end of the 18th century, the Federsee was lowered and Buchau lost its island protection
From 1896 to 1917 the city was connected to the Federseebahn, a narrow-gauge railway from Schussenried via Buchau to Riedlingen to the railway network.
The monument locomotive 99 637 at the former station commemorates this time.
Buchau officially became Bad Buchau in September 1963 with the status of mud spa.
The <1001> NABU nature conservation center Federsee ONLINE Info} looks after the moor and is the contact point for visitors and a training center.
