In 1190 Kruje was already the center of the first Albanian principality Arbanon.. 1443 Skanderbeg drove the Ottomans from Kruje and defended the fortress until his death in 1468 against the Turks.. In 1478 the Ottomans took power for 400 years..

 

The Skanderbeg Museum, now housed in the Kruje Fortress, is the Albanian favorite place of worship, and therefore very well attended..

The fortress also houses the Ethnological Museum, a Tekke and a Turkish bath..

     

The ascent to the castle leads through a bazaar with 19th century buildings where you can find souvenirs and some peculiarities can acquire..
