deitesfrnlse New environmental zone in Brussels

Antwerp was the pioneer, now Brussels is following suit.. Since January 1, 2018, there has also been an environmental zone in the Belgian capital.. This applies around the clock on all seven days of the week and covers the entire metropolitan region.. In the west, north and east it is bounded by the Brussels ring road R0, which itself does not belong to the environmental zone, in the south by the municipality Watermael-Boitsfort..

Important violations of the access restrictions will only be punished with fines from October 2018..

Affected vehicles

Up until now, the environmental zone has particularly affected cars, vans, vans up to 3.5 t, buses and coaches that do not have the required Euro standard.. This applies to both Belgian and foreign vehicles.. Other vehicles, including motorcycles, mopeds, trucks over 3.5 t (only for goods transport) and mobile homes are not subject to the environmental zone regulations until further notice..

In 2018, the above-mentioned vehicles will initially only be prohibited from entering diesel vehicles with Euro standard 1 or older.. From 2019, diesel vehicles with Euro Norm 2 and petrol engines with Euro Norm 1 and older will also be affected by this ban.. From 2020 there will be an expansion to diesel vehicles with Euro standard 3 and from 2022 to diesel vehicles with Euro standard 4.

From summer online registration required
