Magnificent mansions are a rarity in the Masurian countryside..
Likewise the neo-gothic castle in Sobitten / Sorkwity, built in the years 1850 - 1856 by the Mirnach family.. The castle is located on a promontory between the lakes Gielad / Gielandsee and Lampackie / Lampaschsee.. The extensive castle park is in the English style..


In 1470 there was already a church here.. In 1689, the current building was built and rebuilt again in the years 1750-1777.. The Wetterfähnlein on the tower shows the coat of arms of the family Bornikowski.. It belonged to Sorkwity in the period from 1750 to 1804.
The about 200 years old rectory stands in a well-tended garden..

The obelisk in front of the church is dedicated to Sorkwity-born pastor´s son Johannes Friedrich Goerke (1750-1822).. Goerke is considered the founder of the medical service of the Prussian army..
