 Security

Again and again, especially in summer, there are reports of break-ins in mobile homes, sometimes when the crew is away for a leisurely dinner, but also when they are asleep.
The sense and nonsense of so-called gas overfills, which according to the criminal police could not be clearly proven until today, should not be discussed here, everyone can form their own opinion here.

´Popular´ areas for thieves are the coasts around the Mediterranean, especially southern France, but also Spain and Italy. Portugal and Morocco have also been the scene of such attacks, unfortunately recently Norway too. So it is not a trend that is only limited to a certain country, There have been burglaries everywhere and always and there will be everywhere and always.

Whining afterwards is of no use, many break-ins can be avoided with simple precautionary measures:

Driver´s cab doors from the inside with chains or a continuous rod from door to door r secure.
Secure the body door with internal bolts (for the night) and external brackets (entry aid).
Do not necessarily spend the night on the autobahn, prefer to get off the autobahn and either look for a parking space in the next town or a well-lit parking lot in a residential street (if allowed in the respective country!)
If you are very anxious, go to a campsite.
Do not leave cash, purses, jewelry, credit cards, cameras or cell phones lying around openly. Hide valuable items in such a way that you hardly know where they are, put an older wallet with a little cash in the glove compartment and, if necessary, an older camera that is no longer in use. This at least partially satisfies a possibly disappointed thief, who then perhaps refrains from rioting because he cannot find anything.
It is also not necessarily clever to walk around the resort with too much jewelry. Especially in countries like Morocco, especially when gifts are given to begging children, word of this gets around quickly and turns tourists into potential victims.
If the motorhome is left alone in the evening, an old showman´s trick helps: leave a light on and run the radio to give the impression that the driver is in the car.
Keep the locking buttons closed while driving
Do not be tempted to stop on the hard shoulder, no matter how much the other is gesticulating. If you still have the feeling that something really may be wrong, then never get out of the car and keep the windows closed. If necessary, call the police on intrusive ´visitors´ by mobile phone.
Anyone who has bolts on the windows can drill into them. A thin nail prevents the bolt from being pushed up from the outside via a small gap by prying open the window. Simple but effective.
In sliding windows, a suitably cut piece of cork blocks it from being pushed open from the outside.
Even a dog is still a piece of security, probably for the one who owns the dog (well, it should be a little more than a Chihuahua. . . . . )
Alarm systems are of little use, or when was the last time YOU sprinted, see because something like that went off somewhere on the site on a motorhome. . . ??

If something does happen, stay calm, inform the police and, if necessary, call in the ADAC, which has interpreting services in all countries and is extremely helpful in such situations.
