Münster´s Prinzipalmarkt is a piece of lively city history.. The historic cobblestone street between Stadthaus tower and Lambertikirche tells of the Middle Ages, the Hanseatic League and the old merchant families.. Numerous exclusive shops and restaurants have their address here..

The 48 imposing houses, often with three-storey gables, date from the late Gothic and Renaissance periods.. Often, the architects of the time were inspired by the other houses, but each one has implemented his own ideas and thus gave the Prinzipalmarkt its very special charm.. An essential design element is the well-known arcade on the ground floor of the houses..

War and destruction did not stop at the Prinzipalmarkt: during the Second World War, most of the buildings were completely destroyed.. In the fifties, the old facades were lovingly rebuilt at the same height - some true to the original, most with simpler shapes and some modern style elements..

At the Prinzipalmarkt a large part of Münster´s city life takes place: here guests of the state are welcomed and festivals are celebrated, people stroll, shop and enjoy life..
