ADAC strictly rejects general increase



The ADAC strictly rejects the drastic increases in fines planned by the Federal Ministry of Transport.. Because not only violations with high risk potential are becoming more sensitive, but the entire fine catalog should be raised.. Instead of punishing only the really dangerous offenses more strongly and thus to show the motorist the special risks of its behavior, one wants to enforce an area-wide increase by 60 to 100 per cent..

´Higher fines primarily mean extra revenue for the state, but not more traffic safety.. This is shown by the comparison with the European foreign countries, where despite severe punishments often higher accident numbers are to be complained, ´says Ulrich Klaus Becker, ADAC vice-president for traffic.. ´Traffic safety is not increased by a deeper grip in the purse of the car driver alone.. ´

Necessary are more traffic controls at danger spots and a punctual increase in dangerous offenses such as alcohol and drug rides as well as high speed overruns, so the ADAC.. It was not until May 2006 that the fines for distance violations were significantly increased - with the express approval of the ADAC.. So far, however, no figures are available on how this increase has affected road safety.. The planned further increase of another 60 percent can not be justified by the needs of traffic safety.
