On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Meissen porcelain manufacture, the
Saxon Elbland Tourist Association has published a travel guide to the sites of Meissen porcelain. The brochure “Experience White Goldâ€� is available free of charge from the association.
In addition to interesting facts about the history of Meissen porcelain, the travel guide provides information about exhibitions and events in the anniversary year and presents travel arrangements. The trips with three overnight stays for individual vacationers and group or day programs can be booked directly at the Saxon Elbland tourist office. In this way, numerous short trips combine the aesthetic with the culinary experience: Selected restaurants prepare regional specialties that are arranged and served on Meissen porcelain.
The new travel offers include, for example, a bike tour from the porcelain town of Meißen to baroque Dresden, past the steep vineyard terraces along the Elbe. Active travelers can expect numerous sights in Dresden, including the 102-meter-long porcelain mural “Fürstenzugâ€� in Dresden´s old town and the porcelain collection
in the Zwinger, the most extensive special ceramic collection in the world. For
vacationers with a creative streak, the Saxon vacation region offers, among other things, a taster course in ´porcelain painting´ in the atelier of the porcelain factory. Those who love culinary delights can also experience the theme of “Meissen Porcelainâ€� in the Saxon wineries, for example at the “Porcelain & Wineâ€� event series in the Saxon wine cooperative.
