deitesfrnlse the anniversary year for Beethoven´s 250th birthday

BTHVN2020 is a world event - but nowhere will you be so close to Ludwig van Beethoven as in Bonn, where the most performed classical composer in the world was born in 1770. In 2020 Germany and the whole world will celebrate its 250th birthday. The Beethoven city of Bonn and the surrounding region form the center of the international Beethoven anniversary year. BTHVN2020 is under the patronage of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The management and coordination of the anniversary year, which will take place from December 16, 2019 - December 17, 2020, will be taken over by the Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH, which was founded especially for this purpose. It passes on public funding from grants from the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district to innovative Beethoven projects.

The five main themes of the anniversary program (Beethoven as a Bonn citizen of the world, Beethoven as a sound artist, Beethoven as a humanist, Beethoven as a visionary and Beethoven as a nature lover) can be traced back to the abbreviation of Beethoven, which also inspired the logo of the festival year BTHVN. In addition to numerous concerts, concert series and events for children and young people, exhibitions are also being planned. For example, there will be a new permanent exhibition in the Beethoven House in 2020. The Bundeskunsthalle, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the StadtMuseum Bonn and the House of History show new ways of dealing with Beethoven´s life and work.

A special highlight is the newly designed, multimedia Beethoven tour, which brings the life of Ludwig van Beethoven to life at 22 stations in Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district through information steles with background information in videos and texts in three languages.

The BTHVN2020 music freighter, which is going on its journey from mid-March to mid-April 2020, offers a diverse music program that invites people to join in and listen at various landing stages along its river trip from Bonn to Vienna.

As part of the opening of the Wiener Festwochen there will be musical experiences from Vienna via live stream in mid-May. At the same time, the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn plays Beethoven´s ninth symphony on Bonn´s Hofgartenwiese. Look forward to a unique, free open-air concert and an entertaining live bridge, which connects the two Beethoven cities.

The day after that, Kraftwerk´s only German concert in 2020 will take place on the Hofgartenwiese as part of BTHVN2020. In June, the international Beethoven Pastoral Project calls on artists from all over the world to grapple with Beethoven´s 6th symphony, the Pastorale, and put their own interpretation of it together with a statement on climate protection on the project´s website www. beethoven-pastoral-project. com to ask. The result is a global network that will have its end and climax on the United Nations World Environment Day on June 5, 2020.

The Beethovenfest, which takes place annually in Bonn, will be held twice in the anniversary year.In addition to the three-week September festival, there is also a week in March, during which the renowned conductor Teodor Currentzis will be a guest in Bonn. The anniversary year will end on December 17, 2020 with the final concert, at which the West-Eastern-Divan Orchestra will play under the direction of Daniel Barenboim.
