- Hanseatic City of Greifswald<9><9> <9> Starting from a small settlement on the river Ryck, a town developed from a former craftsmen´s settlement as early as 1248, which joined the Hanseatic League in 1278, came to Sweden in 1648 with Western Pomerania and fell to Prussia in 1815. <9> <9> The university, which was founded in 1456, had famous students such as the humanist Ulrich von Hutten in 1509 and the poet Ernst Moritz Arndt at the end of the 18th century.
