- The old town of Icod was declared a cultural heritage in 2004 in the category of total history.. With its streets and buildings, it offers visitors the opportunity to get to know their precious heritage.. The tour leads through paved paths to constructions of great historical and artistic value: churches, monasteries, manor houses, gardens.. <9> <9> Icod de los Vinos was built at the end of the 15th century, when the first colonists settled and built buildings.. However, it took until the 17th century with the development of its clear urban design concept.. <9> A multitude of beautiful buildings make up the old town and are an excellent example of traditional Canarian art and architecture.. <9> <9> One of the most representative buildings is the Lorenzo-Cáceres Palace, recently restored to include the Cultural Center and Arts Center.
1701000 - From the Mirador (vantage point) Garachico you have a magnificent view of the 5,700 inhabitants counting city Garachico, which was founded in 1496 by Cristóbal de Ponte, a Genoese banker.. <9> <9> The protected natural harbor flourished, many people moved in and the settlement flourished, until in 1706 the lava flow of the Montana de Trebejo volcanic eruption buried the harbor basin.. Then the commercial shipping shifted to Puerto de la Cruz and the inhabitants devoted themselves to agriculture and fishing.. Fortunately, many of the beautiful city palaces and some churches were spared from the volcanic eruption.. <9> <9> Garachico lies on an almost round headland and it presents itself as a white house sea with mostly red tiled roofs.. <9> <9> Off the coast rises the Roque de Garachico.
